The majority of research in print media and eating disorders  has centered around fashion magazines, as they regularly feature photographs of unrealistically thin models that have often been extensively Photoshopped.  Research has proven that adolescent girls who regularly read and look at fashion magazines are two to three times more likely to diet to lose weight because of an article. One study, which surveyed girls from grades 5–12, found that:  69% of girls have reported that "magazine pictures influence their idea of the perfect body type/shape"  47% report "wanting to lose weight because of a magazine article or pictures"  Research shows that high levels of concern about weight, dieting, and a desire to look like models or celebrities are all indicators for an increased risk for all eating disorders.   While it's nearly impossible to avoid media influence with today's technology, media literacy education can provide the tools needed to critical...

Bad Effects on Magazines(Images in Magazines)

Magazine Images nowadays do not make women feel like their body matters. Magazines portray the perfect body as being skinny, big boobs, and a big butt. I don't think that the magazines know this, but there is no perfect body type because all bodies are amazing and perfect. Not just females feel like this because guys feel like they need to be a certain body type, too. Some guys think that they are too short because girls like tall guys, they feel like they need to be more muscular because girls like muscular guys. All bodies, not subjected to any gender, is perfect.  The "idealized" body type has changed drastically throughout the years that magazines have been around. The bar may have been set too high this time by media adverts, social outlets, and printed press that the average person cannot meet these expectations.  The Different Body Types Throughout History Ancient Egyp t:   They wanted the girls to be slender, narrow shoulders, high waist, and had a s...

Bad Effects Of Magazines(History)

Invention Of Magazines   The 1700s ushered in a time of increased literacy and intellectual prowess, especially among women. Society's hunger for knowledge enabled magazines to become a popular cultural staple.  English printers produced three essay periodicals that set the stage for modern magazines: Daniel Defoe's The Review (published 1704-13); Sir Richard Steele's The Tatler (published 1709-11); and Addison and Steele's The Spectator (published 1711-12).  Because the periodicals were published several times a  week, they resembled magazines a lot. The content they put out was like our modern day magazines.  In 1731, an Englishman named Edward Cave published a periodical called The Gentleman's Magazine. He invented the word "magazine" from the Arabic word makhazin, which meant storehouse. Cave's goal was to create a magazine that the general public would be interested in. His publication contained everything from essays and poems to stories and poli...

The Tales of Vesperia Fan Base

Image
The fan base of Tales of Vesperia is one that will last a lifetime. This game is from when RPG games were still first getting popular. This game became one that will last a lifetime. It came out several years ago and here I am still wanting to talk about. For one, because I recently just found it and for two, this game has helped me with thinking ahead and knowing the right scenario to pick in certain situations. The game became so popular by the fans that they started calling it one of the best Japanese RPG games of this generation. The fandom is slowly dying down because of all the new modern games coming out and other games like fortnite, COD, minecraft, and so many others. It is hard to compete with these games, but some people will be a fan until they die. I know I will always be a fan and I will be telling my kids about it and any one else who wants to listen or find a fun new game. I have not played this game in awhile and I have not played the other series so I cannot say ...

In this blog, I will be talking about a fantasy game known as Tales of Vesperia. Tales of Vesperia has been a game I have become really obsessed with over the months of playing it. In this game, it  focuses on the world, called Terca Lumieres . In this world, people use an energy source called blastia for all their needs, including creating protective barriers around cities. The story focuses on Yuri Lowell, a former paladin, who forms a guild called Brave Vesperia to aid Estelle, a noble woman he encounters on a mission. You start by playing as Yuri, but along the way, you can play as some other characters, too. You need to fight off monsters who are coming to attack because of the blastia being stolen. Blastia, besides being an energy source, is also the  different towns' shield. The shield protects them from the monsters. You meet many different characters from all backgrounds like a elf, pirate, mage, etc. There are also evil people you need to fight to protect the ...
